Hans Christian Andersen has been honored by creation of the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award and the Hans Christian Andersen Award.
The **Hans Christian Andersen Award**, is an international award given in recognition of a lasting contribution to children's literature. There are two categories of award winners: authors, and illustrators. This award is given biennially by the International Board of Books for Young People. Winners receive a gold medal from the Queen of Denmark.
