Hans Christian Andersen has been honored by creation of the Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award and the Hans Christian Andersen Award.

There are two categories of award winners: authors, and illustrators. This award is given biennially by the International Board of Books for Young People. Winners receive a gold medal from the Queen of Denmark.

Author - David Almond and Illustrator - Jutta Bauer - Germany


The Hans Christian Andersen Literature Award was created in 2010 and is awarded to a living author whose work resembles Hans Charistian Andersen. The winner of this award receives over 93,000 dollars and a bronze sculpture of The Ugly Duckling. The 2010 winner of this award was JK Rowling, who is know for her Harry Potter books.
